Port-Air Industrial Estate is a substantial facility adjacent to Kingsford Smith Airport. The requirement for these premises was to provide safe access to the existing fire hydrant points throughout the estate. In conjunction with Dix Gardener in their role as BCA consultant, we designed new fire rated Hebel block walls and extended the existing hydrant points through the new wall. This facilitated structural stand alone walls with sufficient width and height to give the required protection yet minimal engineering and structural elements. Linemarking, traffic bollards, signage and painting were also installed to ensure Fire Brigade access to each hydrant point.

An actual fire to one of the units in 2005 tested the designed system. The building was destroyed yet the new fire rated walls remianed intact.
